About
When I was a teenager my teacher asked why are most computer power buttons found on the right hand side? I thought about it for a while, gave a few weak suggestions, but I was stumped. Then he told me, "it is because most people are right handed." From that moment on my idea of design completely changed. It struck me that design is powerful, it isn't about decoration it's about purpose. I think about that example with all its nuances every time I approach a design problem. I ask the question why and for what purpose, who is this made for? How do I simplify this without dumbing it down. In all my years in design nothing has had a greater impact on me than the answer to this question.
I've done everything from design furniture, to building consumer electronic devices, apps, created branding guidelines, way finding systems, motion graphics, large scale video installations, documentaries, apparel, video games, and taught art and design.
